Ordnance Survey is Great Britain's national mapping agency, and have been providing geographic data for over 200 years. sketchmap use five of Ordnance Survey's OpenData maps within its Outdoor OS map background. These maps can be viewed, PDF'd and saved to your computer. Also available from OS OpenData are administrative boundaries and height contours that can be viewed on all maps.

Boundaries

Parishes: This layer contains parish boundaries which are the smallest type of administrative areas in England, and includes the equivalent units in Wales (called communities).

Wards: This layer contains ward boundaries within each of the districts in England and Scotland.

Electoral divisions: Contains electoral boundaries for the English counties, the Isle of Wight, Welsh unitary authorities, Welsh Assembly and the Scottish Parliament.

Constituencies: Includes Westminster Parliamentary Constituencies with name and website of the relevant Member of Parliament. This layer also includes Constituency boundaries for the Welsh, Scottish and Greater London Assemblies.

Local authority districts: This layer contains district boundaries within the English counties, unitary authorities, metropolitan areas and London boroughs. Local Authority Unitary Development Plans and Local Development Framework weblinks can be obtained when clicking the relevant boundary on the map.

Counties: Includes the boundary maps for the counties in England that operate under the two-tier administrative structure and includes the Greater London region.

Height (Contours)

Based on the Ordnance Survey's Landform Panorama dataset. These contours provide a broad-brush view of terrain heights above sea-level throughout the UK. The contours are derived from OS 50k base mapping. The contours are at 10m height intervals and are typically accurate to + / - 3m. Also included are spot heights accurate to the nearest metre.

Street Map (1:10,000 scale)

The Street Map (1:10,000 scale) shows street-level detail including named roads, railways, buildings, water, woodland and other vegetation features. Dense line work such as field boundaries are omitted in favour of a clear and easy interpretation.

VectorMap District (1:25,000 scale)

VectorMap District (1:25,000 scale) is a mid-scale digital vector mapping product giving a district-level view. It clearly shows the landscape features relevant to its level of detail, including generalised buildings, roads, railways, landscape features, boundaries and rivers.

Great Britain (1:250,000 scale)

The Great Britain (1:250,000 scale) map displays all cities, towns and many villages, as well as transport routes including all motorways, A and B roads and railways. It provides the ideal backdrop for analysing the wider regional or national context of an area, where local details are not required.
